    A truly transparent league?

I was just trawling around looking at some stuff about global football and I opened up the site for the Japanese J-League. I have to say I am very impressed and this is the English version!

    http://www.j-league.or.jp/eng/

Well laid out site with tonnes of info. It provides info such as prize money, competition schedules, criteria for clubs to be in the J-League, misson statements and aims of the league, survey results, official attendences, line ups etc etc. The whole site gives you a feeling of a very well planned organisation and league. They state themselves that attendences have doubled since the league's inception in 1993. I don't know what we could draw from this exactly as I don't know much about the J-League but it is very refreshing to see such info made available in such a nice site compared to the corner of a poorly laid out FAI website the eL has.

Saw the J-League highlights last night and it is an extremely well supported league. Obviously Ireland is a whole different situation but you are right in saying that the eL could take a leaf out of their book (or website?!). A decent official league website should be automatic, not even a matter of debate.
The sports team from my area is superior to the sports team from your area.

Our league doesn't even have a website !?!
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

Is that a joke A Face? Surely you, bane of all Irish football officialdom should know that.

My point wasn't even so much about the website as the specific information contained in it. It says a lot about the whole ethos and attitude of the league. Progressive, planned and tansparent. There's a lot of info to be acessed there and as I say all in English which is nowhere near an obligation for the J-league. Maybe the reality does not match up as well as the image I get but in an ideal world I'd like the eL to be like that.

JoeSoap, attendences seem to be quite varied from about 10k-40k. Not bad at all.

Just saying the league and FAI should merge already, its hard to aim at two targets !!

I was shocked when I found out they were not merged. The eL "website" has always been just a section on the FAI website which in itself has gotten worse and is awful. Even if they were/will be merged the league should still have a seperate website. It's an utter joke. If someone was begining to become curious about the eL and looking for info then you want a good website which could further your interest, give you info and perhaps lead you to getting into the eL properly.

Disgrace that the league does not have a dedicated website.

    The Irish League : www.irishpremierleague.com

    MLS: www.mlsnet.com

I saw some highlights last night too. Were you in the same pub? Crowd looked very passionate & loads of goals.

I love the way http://www.eircomleague.ie/ is just a mirror of the FAI site, same crap stories & loads of completely unrelated eL news about junior & senior football.

Hehe, no I was at home, it was on that Asian Soccer show on Sky Sports.

Here's a task for all of you...

Find a website of a top-flight soccer league in the world that is actually worse than www.eircomleague.ie

    Their Shelbourne section has:

    Club colours:

Home: Red jersey, white shorts, red socks

Away: White jersey, white shorts, white socks

    Nickname: Shels

    Sponsor: -
    Wow...

    Searched for Netherlands Antilles

But came across a website that links to numerous other FA sites.

I would say that most African clubs and leagues have better sites.

The way football is administrated advertised and ran in this country is a bloody disgrace and an embarassment

A Face, I think the NLSA might be the best way to put it to the FAI/eL about the shoddy website. The eL requires an independent website designed well, with useful features and kept up to date. They won't do that on the basis of a few e-mails we send. Anything less is frankly uncacceptable.

I know .... its just its so glaringly bad !!
And the thing is half of us are used to it and put up with it, that is actually worse. NLSA ... no shortage of work to be done anyway, thats for sure !!
