United's best performance at home in Europe was 3-0 against Barcelona in '84, although Benfica away (5-1) in '65 is possibly better.
It's all about context and Roma were an utter shambles tonight.

Obviously Roma weren't at their best but I don't think they were a shambles, which makes the performance more impressive for Utd. In fairness they scored absolutely every clear cut chance they created, plus a few long range crackers. On their day the likes of Arsenal are even more impressive going forward but when you take the finishing and defensive performance into account it was superb.
