    Best Anti Virus software

I have been having problems with virus at the moment and have just installed Kaspersky on trial but wondering if there is something better. I run on Vista.

Hands down the best out there is AVG Free from Grisoft.

Nothing else comes near it for that price

If I have to install antivirus on a computer, I lean towards Avast. I hate them myself, they're resource-sucking whores, but I guess the morons and the technophobes need it.

I've been using Bit Defender now for a year and think it's excellent. A 2 year subscription cost me something like 25 dollars and the one time I had to contact their customer service (when I mistook something setting it up) they got back to me in a matter of hours.
Good review of it here: http://anti-virus-software-review.to...er-review.html

But even just searching Google for "Bitdefender reviews" will show you how highly it's regarded. I'd have no hesitation recommending it.

Was thinking something similar myself. Nice.
Anyway, having got AVG ready to go now would anyone care to tell this moron whether it will run over the top of Norton or will I have to uninstall the sprawling worthless pile of crap?

I uninstalled it completely. Takes only 2 mins in 'add or remove programs' and a re-start.

No lads, Norton is a nightmare and doesn't uninstall that easily.

What OS do you have Stann? WinXP?

Vista Home on a new laptop.
The last one ground to a halt on me one day a couple of months ago, probably under the weight of viruses and spyware that McAfee didn't detect!

Just a bit of advice on Anti Virus software. If you have more than one installed neither will work correctly.

Best anti virus out there is AVG

Sorry man, i know there are instructions out there for XP. Having a look for Vista but still haven't found any .... bare with me.

Do NOT use Norton Removal Tool in Vista system seemingly it damages you PC.

Edit: Older version of this tool do the damage. More recent versions avoid this damage now (after updates late 2007)

Here is an up to date Removal Tool

Any tips for removing McAfee ??
After having it for one year they decided to just take another 50 euro from my credit card for another year without asking me!! I know there was some box I didn't tick when I bought it last year but still a bit cheeky to just take your money!!

I've removed through add and remove on Vista but the laptop seems much slower ??

Ok installed AVG and my computer still crashes every half hour or so. Am really close to throwing it against the wall.

Any ideas on anything to clear any virus that might be on it already?
