There should be a reasonably healthy Dublin-based support next season...
But here I go...there are 6 clubs in the "Greater Dublin Area" (Bohs, Rovers, Pats, UCD, Shels, Bray) - 7 if you throw in Drogs.
Now I see the GUST wanna increase away support - so is there a plan to try to encourage Galwegian exiles in the Dublin area to attend these games?
Will suitable hosteleries be nominated as meeting venues for a pre-game sherry?
Would a warm welcome be given to such Johnnycomelately, bandwagoneers?
There should be a reasonably healthy Dublin-based support next season...
We had a supporters club in dublin in the late 80's with over 40 members maybe if Francis posted a sticky we could get all our posters based in dublin to join a new one. There are a large number of bars in Dublin owned by galwegians and it might be a way of opening up new sponsorship opportunities.
I'm sure that there are at least 10 people in Dublin who would join.
JC, JW and cooee for a start - I also know a GUFC supporter, Pat Duffy, who lives in the Dublin area. It might be handier if this grouping called itself the Dublin Branch of the GUST as we have membership forms and can provide the grouping with logistical and financial support (flag, etc) if neccesary.
A good start would be to call a meeting for some pub in Dublin in the next few weeks, when fixtures come out. It would be a good idea if this pub was situated near an EL ground so United fans travelling could meet up with the "exiles" when the season starts.
Notices on this site, www.galwayunitedfc.ie and the Evening Herald would hopefully attract some interest.
Maybe JC or JW might undertake this project ?
Check out www.gust.ie next Wednesday for all details regarding away support.
We will discuss the Dublin based supporters on Tuesday.
Good idea cooee....

.....haven't mentioned it to the wife ....hmmmm.....still it is an idea worth tossing around.
As said it is probably as simple as any Dublin supporters meeting up with the GUST buses in their chosen venue. If enough begin to take an interest and turn up it will develop from there....
Yeah there used to be a 'Galway United Exiles' supporters group consisting of a handful of people - unfortunately 2 of the founding members emigrated to Galway!
We can revive the dream again closer to the season.
I phoned the speaking clock to hear a voice speak, it said - "At the tone you will be very much alone"
I certainly don't mind helping out Pa.
Somewhat further afield, I'd be interested in hearing from anyone iwho may be interested in a London branch
Potentially to include a flag for the branch for when members visit various grounds to watch United.
Gust are trying to organise the setting up of a Dublin Branch. In the late 80's, early 90's there were over 40 members in the Dublin Exiles and we'd like to replicate this in the 00's. Leave a message here if you'd be interested in joinging such a group.

I would definately join, but I'm afraid I would be too unreliable to be organising anything!
Well join anyway...you don't have to organise anything.More the merrier!

Already we have :
JC
JW
Padraic
cooee
A non-foot.ie frequenter supporter in Dublin has also expressed an interest in helping out (same intiails as mine, works in the airline industry, some of you may know him).
At this stage, its a matter of waiting until the fixture lists come out and then organising a meeting place.
Will that flag be a Union Jack with "Galway United" printed on it?
There was a GUFC Supporters Club in London in the early/mid 1990's but was disbanded due to the lure of the Celtic tiger back to the mother ship.
In fact, Sportspages on Charring Cross Road used to sell 60 copies of the GUFC fanzine "Standing Room Only' (RIP)
Perhaps foot.ie member Don O'Bate will discuss the matter further as he was a founder member of the London branch.
Nobody knows us, we don't care
I'm interested. Not living in Dublin but near enough!
our first game is against Shamrock Rovers fri 30th March, I think we should meet in Fagans on Drumcondra before the game in Tolka. My brother is alos a big United fan so that is 2 more added.
im between galway and dublin at the moment - so will coordinate that im in dublin on the away days - see ye in fagans then!

OK all friday 30th March, Fagan's,
From the above we have:
JC
JW
Padraic
cooee
Raheen
Galwayunitedcelt +1
Corbyeire
What time is best to meet? an hour before kickoff to get a couple of pints in?
I'll try to get a +1 to come along even if i hafta pay... can anyone else convince/force someone along? so we have 9 including my +1, I'll try for more!
How do we feel about getting a flag? from what i've seen on here these are very expensive... If we were to do it what would we write on it etc.?? Think that is a matter to discuss on the night...
Maybe if we end up getting organized we could start traveling to home games I still find it funny that I need to get off work early to make it to a home game!
So can anyone else drag a +1 or even better a +2?
www.supporters-art.de are very reasonable with there prices. thats where im getting my flag done up.
