    Loud siren over Dublin

If anyone else is up, can you hear this? It's a whooping air-raid-type siren blaring all over the city (I can hear it from all the way up on the northside, coming from the direction of town.)

Do I need to go looking for the iodine tablets?

Edit: It just stopped. Must have been going for 20-30 minutes from when I noticed it.

....and on a school night and all!
Seriously though, did you contact the emergency services?

Nah, I figured if the crisis was dire enough to warrant a general siren, they'd be swamped anyway. And there was nothing on the news so I just went back to bed! Consensus seems to be it was probably an emergency at Dublin Port, or one of the premises located therein. It was pretty bloody loud though.

I was on northside and got woken by it as well. Hadn't realised how loud it was, I thought it was just a nearby car alarm.

    Found something about it:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showt...p?t=2055191657

That's from last year, but sounds like the same thing and people have posted on it this morning.

it must be noted that are many different companys operating in the docks area. Most of these have a Hi-haz designation, if one of these sites goes into fire alarm then the Dublin Port sends an audible alert (siren) to all users of the Port. This will include office workers and foreign sailors, so the best alert signal is this warning sound.wind patterns will make this sound very close to the Dublin 3,5,and 1 area.
