MONAGHAN UNITED FC UNVEILS FULL PLANS FOR AFRICA DAY EVENT
Monaghan United FC has (today, 12.05.09) announced details of an event to celebrate Africa Day.
Africa Day falls on 25th May each year and its aim is to celebrate African diversity and success, and to highlight the cultural and economic potential that exists on the continent of Africa. Since the publication of the White Paper on Irish Aid in 2006, the Irish Government – through Irish Aid – has made a commitment to support Africa Day events on an annual basis, thereby providing world leadership in this regard.
Monaghan United’s event is among the 35 events taking place around the country this year to celebrate Africa Day.
The event planned by Monaghan United FC will take place on Sunday 24th May 2009 and will comprise of a football blitz for children aged 5-11 and a family Bar-be-que with music and fun for all from 2pm.
This event will be open to all members of the public and is free of charge.
Commenting on this planned Africa Day event, the Minister for Irish Aid, Peter Power TD, said:
“Ireland has strong connections to Africa, through the work of Irish missionaries and non-governmental organisations and more recently through the Irish Aid programme, immigration and business, community and school exchanges. Local communities are often the first point of contact for African people who chose to make their life here. It’s through welcoming these new neighbours and making them part of the fabric of our villages and towns that we learn about their culture and history and forge an enriched environment for all of us.
I’m delighted that Monaghan United FC has grasped the opportunity to bring people together to celebrate Africa and all it has to offer. Irish Aid, the Government’s programme for overseas development, is delighted to support the celebration of Africa Day. I wish you every success in celebrating it.”
Further information on Africa Day events is available on www.irishaid.gov.ie/africaday.

What did ye do for St Patricks day?
Marched in the Parade & invited our kids out for a kick about. Gave out sweets & had fun.
[QUOTE=monutdfc;1162981]Mondogs 2 for the price of 1
12 July: Mondogs served with orange sauce
No parade?
Well since the FAI AGM will be on 4th of July I think we are busy enough.
Limerick have an Africa day event too but not sure if the club are involved. I have been working with some of the African community over the past year and it just seems like a good chance to encourage more of their children to play football & want them to feel even more welcome in our club.
