For the sake of balance, Mark McCadden is reporting that hes been told that Carsley has no intention of taking the Ireland job. Personally I believe Dan McDonnell more, but it cant be dismissed that its not a done deal yet and if someone is genuinely telling McCadden that it is slightly worrying

I’m losing faith, to be honest, that it will be Carsley. The performances of Dumb and Dumber on camera the other night didn’t convince me that anything was really close or imminent. Came across to me almost as bluster and another way of interpreting Cooke’s energy was as borderline defensive or aggro v. excited/optimistic.

It certainly feels like there's a game of brinkmanship going on here over terms and conditions with different stories being released by various parties to help negotiating positions. I'd take anything with a pinch of salt at the moment unless it's an appointment confirmation from the FAI or a formal statement from Carsley ruling himself out (which there notably hasn't been to date). There's usually too many agendas at play in terms of the info that's drip fed out to journos while these processes are ongoing.

Dumb and dumber are anything but in fairness, even if they didn't come across well on camera. Both have extremely good resumes. Cook for example was CEO of Sunday business Post, while Keohane was CEO of Tesco Ireland and Bord Bia.

They might have looked like characters from D'Unbelievables but it's actually quite refreshing to see guys with that level of business experience involved in the FAI, and in fairness there have been few leaks so they might be running a tight ship

Yeah, i know, and i agree with your perspective on their overall credibility. D&D reference was a bit harsh but my post was more about what they were saying, the words they were using, and how they were saying it, what their energy/body language was really saying. I could be wrong of course (usually am).

In fairness this is exactly how I would expect the Irish media to behave if they didn't have a clue what was going on.

IIRC correctly this is pretty similar to how things were in terms of mad speculation before the FAI revealed that Liam Brady was pulling the strings the whole time, announced Trapattoni, and left everyone to collect their jaws from the pavement.

I don't imagine it's that tight of a hold, but it feels likely that there are about 3 people in the world who really know what Carsley and the FAI are talking about.

Significant move in the betting markets on Neil Lennon taking over...

    ...as Aberdeen manager.

Price has moved from 16/1 to even money.

    This could be great news!

Lennon would be a great manager for Aberdeen (wink)

Actually if he gets the job it would be an opportunity for him to show that he can manage at a decent club.

Have been trying to convince myself that if the FAI are lining up Lennon for the job, there wouldn’t be the current prolonged delay in making the appointment. But yes, I also think he’d be a great match with Aberdeen.

If McAteer said the sky was blue, I'd go outside to check it myself.

Miguel Delaney in today's (UK) Independent:

"It’s remarkable how fast-moving an otherwise glacial pursuit [of a new ROI manager] went in the last week. About a week ago, Lee Carsley was being talked about in Ireland as almost a certainty to be next Ireland manager. That changed in the space of 24 hours, as sources within the Football Association were adamant their highly-rated under-21 coach was going nowhere. Neil Lennon was then being talked about as the next certainty and talks had gone fairly well. There was some anticipation that might be sorted by Monday but the Football Association of Ireland have decided to keep looking. There’s now a sense, once again, that Carsley isn’t completely off the table. There are still lines of dialogue, not to mention his former Irish international teammates lobbying for the one-time midfielder to get the job. The Irish federation would have to considerably up their offer, though. Word reaches this newsletter that they spoke to a few bigger names - and one huge name - only for the candidates to be put off by the financial offer. It is understood to be around £300,000 to £400,000 a year, although there may now be more room for manoeuvre."

Wonder who the "huge" name was?

It wouldn't surprise me if they reached out to the likes of Flick to gauge possible interest.

Neil Lennon is my 2nd favourite candidate for the job. Everyone else is in joint 1st.

I think I'd actually prefer to have Kenny or Staunton back.
